2018 saw the beginning of a new partnership, Music Junction, with the London Chamber Orchestra, John Lyon School and Harrow Music Service, supported by John Lyon’s Charity.

Music Junction brings together young people from very different social and economic backgrounds to promote confidence, nurture self-esteem and encourage participants to develop empathy and respect for themselves and others within the wider community through music making.

Already an established project in other areas, including Berkshire, Kent and Devon, the innovative musical partnership now comes to North West London and will see John Lyon pupils working with LCO to take music around Harrow and surrounding areas, helping to mentor younger children

The partnership began with a flash mob day, which saw LCO musicians and some of John Lyon School’s own fine instrumentalists surprise not one, not two, but three different young audiences from Kenmore Park School, Cedars Manor School and the Red Balloon Learning Centre.

Work will continue through the year before a grand final concert to be held at Harrow School’s Speech Room in May 2019.
